James Mead, General Manager - Roebuck Estates
I’m lucky enough to have spent all my working life surrounded by wine in one way or another. From part-time roles with some of the high street greats of Threshers, Oddbins and Bottoms Up, to my first full-time wine role with Majestic Wines as a Graduate Trainee Manager. It was this job that truly cemented my passion and interest for great wine.
Since then, I’ve been very fortunate to travel to, work in and call home to some incredible cities around the world, each with their own unique, dynamic food and drink scenes. I joined Roebuck Estates over 6 years ago as General Manager and have been responsible for overseeing and managing all areas of the business notably building the superbly knowledgeable and hard-working team that we now have. From the outset, quality, authenticity and integrity have been at the heart of everything we do and we very much hope this is reflected in our wines.
It was the vision of producing world-class sparkling wine to rival the greatest from other parts of the world and taking this product to a global audience that truly caught my attention. There started the Roebuck story – a pursuit of perfection in wildly challenging growing conditions, and the desire to show the world how great wines produced on our fair shores really can be.
We released our first sparkling wine back in 2019 - our 2014 Classic Cuvée, which was swiftly followed by our 2015 Blanc de Noirs - a single vineyard wine made exclusively from Pinot Noir and more recently our 2016 Rosé de Noirs.
With every growing season we continue to build on our knowledge of the terrific terroir we have at our Sussex sites, and we are excited to see our portfolio evolve and grow as we continue to craft a curated range of the finest English sparkling wines.
