Cherie Spriggs Nyetimber Head Wine Maker
Sparkling Winemaker of the Year 2018
Cherie was born and raised in Canada and after completing a master’s degree at the Wine Research Centre in Vancouver and qualifying as an oenologist, she and her husband Brad, also a winemaker, wanted to join a winery that shared their passion for producing only the best sparkling wine. Cherie and Brad contacted Nyetimber in pursuit of their dream jobs; Cherie had previously tasted Nyetimber and detected a texture and potential in the wine that she hadn’t experienced anywhere else in the world and knew that was where she wanted to work. She and Brad then moved to England because of their new roles. Cherie won the ‘Sparkling Winemaker of the Year’ award at the International Wine Challenge in 2018, the first time in history a winemaker from outside Champagne has won and the first time a woman has won this award.
